چکیده

INTRODUCTION Biorefineries can be built as stand-alone systems or co-located with existing systems such as industrial plants or district heating systems. There are different criteria for selecting a suitable location for a biorefinery, for example closeness to raw material, product markets and heat sinks and sources or existing experiences and know-how. Further, the entire upgrading process from raw material to end products does not necessarily have to be located at the same place. Intermediate products could be produced and transported to other sites for further upgrading. Thus, the suitable location for a biorefinery depends on a trade-off between different parameters. Since biorefineries are not implemented to a large extent today and new technologies are constantly being developed, there is a need for studies that address questions such as how different overall performance parameters (overall efficiency, economic performance and GHG emissions reduction potential) are affected by the choice of location of the different stages in the biomass upgrading process, the pros and cons of different location options and what is of specific importance to consider concerning the location of biorefineries. It is relatively easy to quantify the effect of parameters such as transportation distances for raw materials and products or the degree of heat integration. The effect of other parameters are more difficult to quantify, e.g. experience and know-how concerning handling of the raw material, the processes or the products.

Optimal design and planning of biodiesel supply chain considering crop rotation model Part 1. Mathematical model formulation of the problem

This paper addresses the optimal design and location facility of biodiesel supply chains (BSC) under economic and environmental criteria. The economical aspect scale is assessed by the total annualized cost. The environmental objective is evaluated by the total GHG (Green House Gases) emissions for a whole life cycle. A mathematical model that can be used to design the supply chain (SC) and man...

Utility-Integrated Biorefineries and Capacity Planning

This report describes how capacity planning models can be used to plan investments in biorefineries. For this, we have considered several processes belonging to a chemical supply chain that can be fed by a raw material, such as switchgrass, and used to produce valuable commodities. To build our model we have considered 58 possible processes to choose from, part of which are 12 chemicals chosen ...

Effects of Disruption Risks on Biorefinery Location Design

While ever-growing bio-ethanol production poses considerable challenges to the bioenergy supply chain, the risk of refinery operation disruptions further compromises the efficiency and reliability of the energy supply system. This paper applies discrete and continuous reliable facility location models to the design of reliable bio-ethanol supply chains so that the system can hedge against poten...

Optimal Location and Parameter Settings of UPFC Device in Transmission System based on Imperialistic Competitive Algorithm

In this paper, we present a new method to determine the optimal location and parameter settings of UnifiedPower Flow Controller (UPFC) for removing voltage violations and transmission lines overloading. UPFC isconsidered as the most powerful member of the FACTS devices, that it can control shunt and series power flow. This option gives to UPFC the power to control the voltage profile and transmi...

Mixed convection fluid flow and heat transfer and optimal distribution of discrete heat sources location in a cavity filled with nanofluid

Mixed convection fluid flow and heat transfer of water-Al2O3 nanofluid inside a lid-driven square cavity has been examined numerically in order to find the optimal distribution of discrete heat sources on the wall of a cavity. The effects of different heat source length, Richardson number and Grashof number on optimal heat source location has been investigated. Moreover, the average Nusselt num...
